Marilyn F.

When asked to describe her painting, Marilyn said: “I painted the grasses that grow by my porch, and envisioned them being at the ocean. Imagining the ocean has always been sustaining for me, and has been particularly helpful during the COVID pandemic.” In her eighties and diagnosed with asthma, Marilyn has been quarantined to her house with her friend Pat for months. She only spends time outside on her front stoop and hasn’t been able to visit the ocean, a favorite summer pastime of hers. Marilyn is an artist inside and out, and here conveys longing and the power of imagination in reframing a mundane quarantine space into a mental oasis.
